Jim's Journey

During this movie the main character Jim changed a lot before, during and after the war. As you watch the movie you can see him grow from helpless young boy to a mature gentlemen.

Before the war James lived with his English parents in China. He was kind of bratty and abuses his nanny. Even though James could be a little snotty sometimes he was thoughtful about the homeless guy that begged for change and food outside his gate. In the beginning you could tell he was rich because of the mansion he lived in and the clothes and school he went to. James changes a lot during the war he even changes his name.

During the war Jim lost his parents along with them he loses money, clothes and food. Shortly after he met Basie, who taught him somewhat how to survive. After meeting Basie he became a thief stealing food and other valuable goods for Basie to trade. He is also naïve to the fact that Basie is just using him. At the very end of the war Jim finds himself, he throws all his memories away and decides he’s not American, he’s not Chinese, or he’s not Japan, he’s just Jim.

After the war Jamie is united with his parents. Being back with his parents I guess he possessed all his riches again. After going from being rich to poor within days I think Jamie has learned the value a family and how it feels not to have parents. After the war I think Jamie was very mature and he is a survivor.

In conclusion James has grown a lot since before the war and he has even grow into different personalities like his different names Jim, Jamie and James all these names have a different personality in the movie.
