"Chasing The American Dream"

(GRADE THIS ONE)
“When I grow up I want a big house with a white picket fence and a handsome husband”, this is what the American dream is all aboot. It’s been said that most people spend their lives chasing the American dream. In order to fulfill this dream you have to be rich, famous, and happy. The book Of mice and men tells a story of many people who long for this dream and try to go after it, but as soon as they get their dreams in the palm of their hands fate takes a turn for the worst.
The two main characters in this book George and Lennie are no strangers to failure. George is an intelligent middle aged man who takes care of a mentally retarded man. George and Lennie have a big dream of living of the “fat of the”, So to reach their goals they work for fifty dollars a month and save their earnings. Every time their almost their Lennie messes up and they have to start over and their dream is lost, but at least they have each other to start over with all the other guys have no one.
Curley’s wife had dreams of seeing her name in lights, she met a road manager on night and he said he would see to it that he would make it happen. She was so naïve she believed him. The same night she met a short, cocky arrogant man named Curley, and her dreams fell in a downward spiral ever since. She is very lonely and is desperate to find someone to talk to, maybe she wouldn’t be ignored if she had become a star.
Curley is a very self-conscious short guy. He had high hopes of becoming a professional boxer but his dreams fell short when Lennie crushed his hand. The reason why Curley hates Lennie so much is because he is so big, every little guy is intimidated by bigger men. Curley is very miserable because he did not live up to his life expectations.
In conclusion the book Of mice and men tells a story of people who long to live the great American life but can’t because of certain circumstances in their life.
